Former injury lawyer in Las Vegas, Lawrence J. Davidson, pleaded guilty to charges of defrauding clients and stealing their personal injury settlements.
In October 2006, federal authorities charged Davidson with mail fraud and money laundering for negotiating personal injury and medical malpractice settlements without the authorization of his clients from May 2003 to September 2004.
As an injury lawyer in Las Vegas, Davidson had the duty to discuss any settlement options with his clients. However, this did not happen, and according to authorities he used the money from the settlement for his own personal use.
According to the plea agreement, Davidson defrauded at least 14 clients out of more than $930,000.
He pleaded guilty to charges in three cases including: 20 counts of mail fraud and four counts of money laundering; one count of making a false statement in a passport application, one count of aggravated identity theft and two counts of willfully failing to appear at court hearings; and one count of violating his supervised release by failing to notify the probation officer of a change of address.
The plea agreement states that the former injury lawyer in Las Vegas should be sentenced for 8 ½ years in prison and required to pay over $930,000 in restitution.
