A recent political cartoon showed the state of California and asked, “If you’re a Californian and you want to start a small business, there are a number of routes you can take.” The map then detailed with large black arrows, the different interstate routes to take to get out of the state.
With California’s difficult business laws, more people are looking out of state and to their Utah attorneys to set up their small businesses. And while California is becoming known for overregulation and business killing taxation, Utah is the opposite with a reputation as a business friendly state.
One of the surprises from the survey was that small businesses cared more about professional licensing regulations than about tax rates.
